There are so many considerations when it comes to buying replacement windows – from energy-efficiency to glazing, ease of maintenance to frame color – that it can be quite a daunting task. While all of these factors are important, without a doubt the most important decision you will have to make is what style to get.

Typically, a home will feature more than one style but at 3JM Exteriors, Inc. we advise against mixing too many styles together as it creates a disjointed and incoherent look. Before you decide what kind of windows to get, here is a list of the most popular styles that are available in the market today to help the decision-making process that much easier.
Double-Hung Windows – Double-hung windows have two operating sashes that allow them to be opened from the top and the bottom.
Casement Windows – This style is hinged on the side and can crank open outward on either side. A general contractor will typically recommend this style above kitchen sinks.
Awning Windows – As the name suggests, awning windows are hinged on the top and open outwards from the bottom to not only allow adequate ventilation, but also provide protection from the rain.
Sliding Windows – Sliding windows are basically double-hung windows turned sideways. Often used for openings that are wider than they are tall. They open sideways with one pane sliding over the other.
Picture Windows – Sometimes called a fixed window as it does not open up, picture windows offer a clear and unobstructed view of the outside and is an excellent window replacement option for modern homes with breathtaking outdoor views.
Bay and Bow Windows – Bay and bow windows combine three or more windows that are angled out beyond the walls of your house. This design allows for more natural light and also increases the space inside a room.
